Duo Group Removes HS2 Sizer and 600m Conveyor at Wendover

13 July 2026

Duo Group planned and executed the safe removal of an MMD mineral sizer, apron feeder and 600 metres of modular conveyor from EKFB’s HS2 works at Wendover, Buckinghamshire, including a night-time crossing of the A413 London Road.

The Project

Works began on Monday 29 June 2026 to decommission and remove a mineral processing and material-handling system installed as part of EKFB’s HS2 enabling works near Wendover, Buckinghamshire. EKFB, the Eiffage Kier Ferrovial BAM joint venture, used the plant to process and convey spoil during construction of the Small Dean section of the route, including a conveyor crossing over the A413 London Road that removed thousands of lorry movements from local roads during the works.
The scope covered two locations on the EKFB site: the MMD sizer and apron feeder on the Rocky Lane section, and the remaining conveyor run finishing on the Small Dean section.
Duo Group planned and delivered every stage of the operation, engineering the removal sequence, resourcing the lifts and transport, and managing the works around EKFB’s programme and road-closure windows.
It’s work that plays to Duo Group’s core strength: we design, manufacture, install and support processing and handling plant of exactly this kind, so putting that expertise into recovering it, rather than losing it to scrap, was the natural approach.

Why the London Road crossing was the critical phase

The conveyor’s bridge sections spanning the A413 London Road could only be removed during planned road closures, which meant the most technically demanding lifts had to happen outside normal working hours. Duo Group’s team worked through the nights of Friday 3, Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 July 2026 to dismantle and remove the sections crossing the carriageway within the allocated closure windows, with the conveyor belt removal carried out separately during day-shift hours.
Every lift had to be sequenced, resourced and completed within a fixed overnight window, with no scope to spill over into the next day’s traffic, demanding meticulous planning and precise execution throughout.

What was removed

  • MMD Sizer
  • Apron feeder
  • Large feed hopper
  • 600 metres of modular conveyor, including 4 transfer points
  • 2 no. MCC (motor control centre) containers
  • Spares, including a full new conveyor belt and an unused set of crusher teeth

A second life for the plant

Because the conveyor system is modular, it can be dismantled, transported and reassembled on another site rather than scrapped, extending its working life and giving the next owner a lower-cost, faster-to-install alternative to new-build plant. The same applies to the sizer, apron feeder, hopper and MCC containers: all were removed intact by Duo Group and are now being made available for sale — see the full equipment listing.
